Key Responsibilities

Accurately and promptly code medical records using ICD-9 and ICD-10 classification systems.

Utilize medical office software and electronic health records (EHRs) to access and review patient data.

Conduct thorough research to ensure compliance with DRG guidelines and medical coding regulations.

Identify and correct coding errors, ensuring the highest level of precision in our medical records.

Collaborate with medical staff and healthcare professionals to ensure coding aligns with medical practice and terminology.

Stay updated on medical coding guidelines and industry best practices.

Analyze and interpret data related to medical billing and coding, providing recommendations for improvement.

Conduct audits and reviews of medical records to ensure compliance with coding regulations and internal policies.

Provide training and support to new hires and existing staff on coding and record-keeping procedures.

Apply knowledge of HIPAA Privacy Rules to ensure compliance.

Requirements

Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification required.

At least 2 years of experience in medical coding, preferably in a medical office setting.

Extensive knowledge of ICD-9 and ICD-10 classification systems and DRG guidelines.

Strong understanding of medical terminology and anatomy.

Proficiency in medical office software and electronic health records (EHRs).

Intermediate to advanced computer literacy, including experience with data abstracting software, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email.

Advanced interpersonal skills for effective communication with team members, physicians, and other clinical staff.

Ability to analyze medical records and coding guidelines, extract data, identify quality improvement areas, and verify regulatory compliance.
