JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS), in Hershey, PA, is seeking applicants to fill a non-tenure-line faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The Department consists of four academic divisions, namely, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, Health Services and Behavioral Research, and Clinical Informatics Research. There are more than 60 faculty members in the Department (35 tenured/tenure-eligible) and more than 70 support staff members. PHS provides a strong infrastructure for its faculty members in the areas of biostatistics, study design, data management, research computing, project management, and finance and administration. PHS offers six Graduate programs, namely, PhD in Epidemiology, PhD in Biostatistics, Doctor of Public Health (DrPH), Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Science (MS) in Clinical Research, and Master of Professional Studies in Homeland Security with an option in Public Health Preparedness, as well as several Graduate Certificate programs. The successful candidate will possess training and at least five years of experience in epidemiology and biostatistics that is applicable to biomedical and community-engaged research. In particular, the successful candidate will collaborate on two specific projects: (1) Community Health ? Lead the primary and secondary data analysis, interpretation, and presentation for all aspects of the Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) process. Lead the evaluation of community health projects; submit grants; and develop student learning opportunities with the CHNA process. Seek ways to evaluate Community Health data and compare/contrast it to larger patient data sets such as electronic medical record (EMR) data, private health insurance claims data, or Medicaid and Medicare data. (2) Study of adverse events among youth with autism spectrum disorders using the MarketScan database of health insurance claims data. This position will also teach one course per semester in the MPH program: specifically, the practicum and advanced field experiences. The successful candidate should possess a doctoral degree in public health with a concentration in epidemiology and/or biostatistics and have a steadily increasing track record of scholarly activity. Our ideal candidate would be very flexible, organized and detail oriented. Prior working knowledge of SAS, CBISA?, REDCap, TriNetX, and the MarketScan database is required. With its location in Hershey, near Harrisburg, PA, PHS has a strong collaborative relationship with public health scientists and practitioners within the Pennsylvania Department of Health. This is a limited-term non-tenure line position funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of refunding.
