About the position
Stanford Health Care's infectious diseases clinics provide state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment for patients with various kinds of infections. The infectious disease team is expanding and adding an experienced per diem Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to work 3-4 shifts per month remotely from home. This position is designed for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant who will collaborate with two other full-time APPs in managing complex patients, particularly those with acute COVID-19, in conjunction with the infusion center to administer IV medications. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of infectious diseases and the ability to evaluate and treat patients with both acute and chronic complaints, as well as health maintenance concerns related to the specialty. The Physician Assistant (PA) will function under a job description approved by the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee (IDPC). Specific functions pertaining to the service, clinic, or department are established by the PA and their supervising physician(s), and approved by the appropriate medical and nursing administrators. The PA will be responsible for obtaining complete patient histories, performing pertinent physical exams, and assessing normal and abnormal findings on both new and returning patients. They will also be tasked with ordering and evaluating diagnostic studies, administering medications according to formulary protocols, and collecting specimens for laboratory tests. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the PA will initiate arrangements for hospital admissions and discharges, assist in the operating room, and recognize situations requiring immediate physician attention. Effective communication with patients, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds is essential, as is the ability to coordinate care and services across inpatient and outpatient settings.
