Utility Operator I
JOB ASSIGNMENT: UTILITY OPERATOR I
JOB NUMBER: 21-0905 or 22-0905
DEPARTMENT: 21-Water, 22 Wastewater
PAY: $3,060 per month / $17.65 - hour
Post-Probation Pay: $3,152 per month / $18.18 - hour
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Utility Operator IV
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This position will perform various manual tasks and follow directions given by the immediate supervisor, during the construction, repair and maintenance of the City?s water, wastewater and storm drain infrastructure. This position will require heavy manual labor. The nature of this position requires this person to be subject to call 24 hours per day as assigned, including weekends and holidays. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood ?I SERVE? Core Values.
EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC WORK PERFORMED:
1) Installation, maintenance and repairs of the water, wastewater and storm drain infrastructure; 2) Operate safely all types of equipment; 3) Ensures that preventative maintenance and repairs are performed on all equipment; 4) Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

None.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Ability to transport self from site to site. Ability to drive various types of equipment and vehicles to and from various work-sites. Employee will work in extreme temperatures, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, twisting, climbing, and lifting in order to maintain or repair the City?s infrastructure. Employee will work with chemicals, mechanical, electrical and traffic hazards. Employee will work in confined spaces, trenches, and in streets where extreme hazards exist while performing duties. Employee is frequently required to perform heavy lifting and carrying of materials weighing up to 100 pounds. Employee will be exposed to dirt, dust, noises, fumes, odors, water, wastewater and mud. Employee must be able to walk on slippery, loose, uneven and sloped surfaces.
CONTACTS WITH OTHERS:
Daily contact with employees in the performance of duties. Occasional contact with the public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or GED certificate.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
Must be able to safely use a variety of hand tools and mechanical equipment. Must have the ability to read and write, as well as understand and follow written and oral instructions. Must have the ability to learn and retain knowledge.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:
Valid Texas Driver license; must obtain Class D Water license within one year.
